Can't Install Microsoft Updates Please Help!!?

I tryed to set up virtual pc 2007 on my computer. I downloaded the software directly from microsoft and started installing microsoft windows 98 on my computer. Soon after the blue screen of death came fllashing across my screen. I got in and uninstalled all the software and files that had already been installed, then repaired all the windows files with my set up disc (please note i repaired, i didn't reformat.) everything was working fine until i went to install updates. It downloaded them all but it wont install them! I checked the microsoft website for help and all it told me was to delete some files then install activeX 6. Well it didn't work and im still stranded without important updates. I really dont want to reformat unless it comes down to that (please dont let it.) Any help at all is greatly appreciated. They're not that important, critial updates can be downloaded manually, but they're not needed for Win98 to operate.

This could be a major issue, when you repair, most programs and UPDATES will not work in this case, as the computer believes they are still installed when infact the files are still there. Best chance, reformat and start Windows over. It will be a lot less painful than trying to fix this.
I think the only thing you can do is reformat it.

it looks like that because in Display Properties you have different appearance settings

On your desktop click right mouse button.

1. Then Properties.

2. Appearance

3. Set Windows and Button on Windows XP Style

that's how you get it to be blue

Try this: Go into the Control Panel (under Settings on the Start Menu), select the ''Display'' icon, select the ''Settings'' tab and change the ''Color palette'' box.

The color depth of the displayed image refers to how many bits of information are used to represent the color of each pixel. The more colors that are used, the better the quality of the image, but of course there are other factors that trade off against image quality.
The 2nd image I see is Windows Vista. Maybe you can check your screen settings and the colors.
its because your not using the default blue theme in windows xp, if you was then you would get the original colour of office

uninstall it in safe mode by press F8
Try and uninstall it in safe mode, this will only load necessary file and this should allow you to clear off your PC. START the PC than keep pressing F8 until the safe mode option pops up. Select safe mode and let it run. Once the PC has loaded click to uninstall via the normal way, then reboot. That should do the trick

Do you have McAfee or Norton installed on the computer? If so,that could be the problem.
Consider yourself very lucky if that is the first and only time you have experienced the infamous Microsoft BSOD (Blue Screen of Death).

You do NOT need a receipt.

I have had to send mine in for repairs already.

When you call and speak to an agent, they will ask for the serial number on the back, so either write it down or take the unit with you to the phone. And as long as you didn't mess with the Microsoft silver sticker under the faceplate you are fine.

The serial number tells them when you purchased the unit, so there is no need for a receipt.

Also, it may take a while to get someone, but the call is free so just be patient.

MS has the new policy where they will replace or repair any 360 that has the red ring of death for 3 years from the date of purchase. Now, the 360 came out on Nov. 2005. It is now July 2007. That's less than 3 years, so you should still be under warranty.

If you call MS and the agent says you need a receipt, ask her when the 360 was released, and then ask her what date it would be 3 years from the date that she gave you. Now ask her again, if you need a receipt. My guess is that she'll say no.

Yes you would need it. i don't have a 360 myself and i'm pretty sure you would need to send the recipt with it. if you don't have it, then go get it fixed somewhere else and have Microsoft pay you back. I've done this a lot of times with other electronics and it requires proof of purchase.

Well if you want to know and yea you do not need a receipt just the serial number and yea to get through to a agent fast just say random things when after you say xbox console and then xbox 360 say somthing he doesnt say a couple of times and then it will connect you straight with an agent

But it is Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer that is moving Microsoft in that direction and it is going to eventually blow up in their face.

No one forced Microsoft to load Vista with so much DRM.

There are no Laws in any country that mandate that.

They did it by choice to pander to the RIAA and MPAA so that they would be elevated to the status of DRM police.

They did it so that everyone will have to pay a fee to Microsoft for them to digitally sign off on what ever you want to run on Windows Vista.

Many companies are unwilling to do that so their hardware and software remain incompatible with Vista.

I don't have any problems at all with it, in fact I like it better than any previous version. Make sure to get a lot of RAM, I would recommend at least 2 G.

Reguardless of whether Vista is good or bad doesn't matter -- XP is done (will be soon) and if you don't want to use a MAC or to run a Linux dist. your only choice is VISTA. With updates and so forth it will continue to grow and get better. PS in a few months you probably won't be able to buy an XP machine.(now it's tough)....Try to get the Vista version you want from the get go... upgrading Vista ?? to Vista Ultimate or Business or ?? is expensive after the purchase.
im a computer programmer, and i dont really find vista that bad, lots of unknowledge people out there keep spreading retarded rumours. i have vista ultimate i do enjoy using it, although it may be a bit ''buggy'' patches and updates manage to resolve the problems, but if you buy vista, just go for the ultimate, the other versions are not so good! lots of people hate vista because (as i said before), there are still some bugs, but its not as bad as 2months ago, xp used to be the same when it first came out.
